can one - on a local network (as in the network in my house) level - ban oneself from seeing certain sites?
or would one have to get some sort of censoring programme that goes by entered urls and not words or content?

just curiosity

yup there is but you'll have to use a machine as a gateway that all traffic would pass through. SurfControl makes a product thats called Smart Scout that does that.

Hehehe well you stalker you, ya it will do that, you can ban by page, domain, subdomain, etc.... Use it at work..... Plus the bonus of being able to watch who is surfing what just in case your little stalker heart so desires ;-)

You can get IE to do this quite easily. Go to Tools / Internet Options / Content and enable Content Advisor. In the settings for that you can add a site and tell it to never allow you to go there.
