So, after all these years of braiding, I finally figured out cornrows,
I did a decent job here:

that was in around 2000, I think, but they didn't hold together well.
I just learned I'd been doing them UPSIDE DOWN.
I just assumed that they were tiny french braids,
which is upside down of a cornrow should be.

As someone who just figured out all this extension/braiding stuff by looking at other people's heads, and backwards engineering a very bad job done on my own head by a silly white girl, I feel really stupid for not figuring out that I was cornrowing upside down this whole time.
It was a late night wandering the internet looking at hair stuff and stumbling across a "how to cornrow" tutorial, and a resulting big "duh" moment. So lasternight in the middle of insomnia I cornrowed the front of my head, just my own hair no added hair help, as it was more of a tired fidget than a planned project. And holy crap what a difference doing it the right way up makes, I didn't have to braid so tight to make it hold, and it looked right. The only reason the 'rows in the above picture look at all decent is that they have added hair so it made it popup more despite the fact that they're actually just tiny french braids.

So, I didn't like the placement of the recent ones, they were just a test so I pulled them out in a few days, which wasn't easy, actually. Damn things were very secure. I have a couple pictures but they're on the fon, cause I didn't know where the camera was a the time, so they're stuck on the fon till service is back. When/if I do it again for stay for a while I'll add hair so the 'rows aren't so far apart cause I have very fine hair.

I figure J's hair is thick enough that I'll give him some fat 'rows on his whole head one of these weekends, give him gangsta hair for work. Which will be funny cause his co-workers refer to him as the nigger, cause he's the new guy. It's a laid back, somewhat disrespectful workplace, he's loving it there.

Oh yeah, This is the braid gallery, I know there's more than this, I should look around.
