Been totally offline for a few days,
the card that our previous dialup billing from was stolen/reissued,
didn't get around to putting new billing information on the account,
before it ran out the other day.

I knew it was going to happen and had been looking to see if there was cheaper, as we passed the introductory lower price, but hadn't found anything. Was on the Fry's Electronics website last week just randomly looking at toys when I noticed they've a dialup isp. Around the same as peoplepc's introductory rate and with first 30 days free, even. PLUS no fucking proprietary dialing software, all major OS's come with perfectly useful dialing ability, that doesn't eat up half your connection speed.

I'm already connecting at the same or lower speed with fry's isp, and it's an obvious difference from peoplepc, much faster loading. It was nice to have SOMETHING, and we're still much appreciative of person who had kindly gotten and been paying for it for us. I had put off fixing the peoplepc billing for so long cause I hadn't decided how I felt about paying ten and change (or letting said person pay ten and change as the after intro price that hadn't been paid yet) for that quality of service, especially when their tech support number was a 900 number. I'm very comfortable with paying around half that, for something that happily connects without boggy software, and I didn't have to search through a billion menus to find the smart people faq and troubleshooting, and looking forward to telling person not to bother, that we've got it taken care of.

It's cheap enough that I'm pondering keeping it after we're all caught up and have real internets back on, just cause it always makes me feel better to have a backup. Dom let me use his free InReach account for years, when he still worked there, when needed which was nice.

Still in dialup land, but I like this landscape better.
