There's a whole community on this subject I know, but they're probably all crazy hippy types. I did post in ama but didn't get much response. So I'm just going to babble here.

I'm trying the Baking soda, Apple Cider Vinegar, method of hair cleansing, instead of shampoo/conditioner.

Now from what I've read, there's a transition period in which one's hair gets greasier and weird for a while while it gets used to the new method. I don't know if I can hang. My hair has gotten CRAZY SHINY, and it was even eaiser to dye and wash out the dye, but it's waxy.

My hair is thick but my individual hairs are fine. But now it seems all thick. It's like I've suddenly gone from partly Native American hair to full blown stereotypical Just Like The Indians In The Pictures hair. Thick, straight, shiny, CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITH IT CAUSE IT SLIDES RIGHT BACK DOWN.

I hope this is just the transitional period because I was hoping for lighter weight hair not OMG I HAVE A HORSEMANE ON MY HEAD hair. We'll see what happens.

SRSLY.

I feel like I should just put on some skins and feathers and go stand in the background somewhere looking sad.

I tried using Burt's Bees shampoo & conditioner for a while, and my hair was all waxy, too. It wasn't bad when it was long, because I kept it braided pretty much all the time, but then I cut it and it just felt weird.

I have a friend who's had a lot of success with the no-shampoo thing, I can ask her what kind of mix she uses if you want.
