hoveringsombreroFinally cornered THE GRG and talked at him a while, but he had to get himself away to some geekery, so I ended up whining on #warped and a snake tried to help me for a while, decided I needed a different install disc, got that, but I'm done.
THE GRG is off work tomorrow so if he's not online to bother I can always bother him via magical telemafon.
The consensus appears to be that it's a video issue, be it my broken onboard video, or that my monitor is going to have its 6th birthday in a few weeks. This is the screen it last does before it starts flashing on and off and does the SOMETHING BAD error.
Hopefully I'll get it worked out tomorrow, or at least soon. Barring that, the LiveCD actually runs like buttah, and I worked for a few hours earlier just with that. Unless I decide to sacrifice an SD card to save my settings on though, I have to redo everything each time I have to reboot it.

The Brother Man has been seriously considering it lately, I do actually think that it's inevitable. The Grg is a little more stubborn and resistant to change, so who knows there.
