Oh Russell T. Davies, you magnificent bastard.
The Doctor Who series 4 finale nearly did me in as badly as Torchwood's series two ender.
Good god.

Since we knew that last week's was going to be a cliffhanger to the long last episode, we decided to wait and watch them both together. Which I'm very glad we did, fucking bitch of a cliffhanger in ep12. Was more confusing of one than really nervous making., as I already knew that David Tennant is still signed to continue being The Doctor through 2010 at least.

Holy crap, Davros! ROSE! Jack! Martha! Sarah Jane! Mickey! Jackie! TWO DOCTORS! Holy ensemble cast, Batman!
I was bothered by Jack leaving Gwen and Ianto behind, but I guess he knew they'd be safe there,
though it really just seemed like him outright abandoning them at first.

Terrifically sad that Donna's gone and that she'll never remember.
Catherine Tate really did an excellent job at this role, especially in the finale.
Goddamn for a companion that annoyed the piss out of me half the time at first,
I'm really really really going to miss her.

SadHappy, bittersweet about Rose. I like this ending with her much better than the previous. She really intended to stay with The Doctor foreverandever, and that would have just gotten sad as she aged (Highlander, omg). This way she still loses her doctor, but gets the human copy.

Hopefully the ending confirms that Martha will be joining Torchwood, they really do need a doctor, and possibly Mickey, though I dunno how I feel about that. Though he seems to have become quite a badass in the interim.

So once again, The Doctor is alone. And we don't get an actual series next year, just get a bunch of specials. To resume with an actual full 5th series the following year. Which means, I think, that we won't get another full-time companion till 2010.

And so I'll end with the final words of Russell T. Davies (from the Confidential episode following the finale), who has just ended his last full series as head writer, though he will continue to be on staff. Handing over the reins to (OMG!) Steven Moffat as of the beginning of series 5, in 2010. I assume this means that Davies'll continue to be head writer through the 2009 specials? I have no idea.

"I always think the more you emphasize lonely doctor, the more you come back to what the heart of the series is ... that which is a man traveling through time and space ... in a box."
