Random observations

It just occurred to me that a completely empty street/area/town is scarier in the daytime. At least to me, as dark often more comforting than scary to me. The reason this came up is that I was sitting here in my room, after taking off headphones, before turning on tv, and it was totally silent, and I heard a noise from outside, probably some traffic noise, whatever, that made me think of Silent Hill. I couldn't even describe the sound now, just gave me like a thought picture of the whole feeling of Silent Hill. And my imagination was transported outside, to the whole surrounding area, as much as I could immediately reconstruct in my mind's eye, imagining it totally, completely empty. No traffic, no people, nothing. And it was infinitely more creepy than some dark empty road with wind howling.
Maybe because in dark you can tell yourself that it's not ACTUALLY empty, that a few hundred feet away there's probably people quietly sleeping or watching tv in their houses. In broad daylight, it's harder, it's more obvious that there's nobody.
