MCI = the bad
Jul. 28th, 2004 10:35 amthis is a conversation with an ex-coworker the other day
to give some background information
previously there were 10 vacation slots per day available
if you had vacation days and a slot was open, you got it.
this was 10 per day total, no consideration given to shifts
and it's a 24 hour call center,
that always confused me.
anyway.
the person i'm talking to has been there ... 5 years i believe
M has been there 7, and jim (common name plus i already used J) has been there since it opened, which is 7 or 8 years, not sure.
previously the policy had been if you could not take all your vacation days due to there not being any availability then your vacation would roll over, at one point they forced M to take a month off because he had too much vacation and he wasn't willingly taking it. and another bit of back story is, C and her husband have been trying to take as much vacation as possible, as have the others, so it's not a case of them refusing.
also the workplace officially has a "no-scent" policy which means NO scent of any kind, none, just deodorant and please use plain soap. the ventilation in there is rather suck and there are a few people who are very allergic, C is severely allergic to most perfumes and colognes
PLUS they're short because they keep firing and people keep quiting
i don't understand why they don't just hire more.
they were constantly hiring when it was still GC before MCI took back over.
eris: you all have any vacation you could use in September?
C: are you kidding?
C: hah aha
eris: used it all?
C: they are only letting FIVE people take vacation time in sept
C: Oct
C: Nov and dec
eris: five slots per day?
C: and then the vacation time DISAPPEARS
C: no compensation
eris: what???
C: yep cuz they are so short
C: and half the operators have NOT taken their vacation
C: M has 21 days
eris: that is fucked
C: jim has quite a bit too
C: its against the law
C: I believe
eris: i think so
C: but what that they do isn't against the law
C: there are quite a few things going on there
C: I got a zero tolerance write up
C: which is saved for sexual harassment, racial or any other discrimination
C: why?
C: for REQUESTING that someone LOADED with scent not come closer!
C: (she was going to be relieving (husband)'s call right next to me)
C: I panicked and said what i said
C: rather then going to a supervisor and having them say that they could smell it

Jul. 28th, 2004 04:54 pmHI!
i'm at
cydniey's house
we were suppose to come by to take them to pick up their rental car
but we had to go to the school for an appointment first
and we got to talking
so by the time we got here it was nearly time for them to get off to dr
so i gave doc my keys and set them on their way with my car.
i'm the trusting sort.
that car would have been very cramped with four people in, though.
ok the school
WAS FUCKING AMAZING
they have a great setup
peanut's going for medical transcription
but they've got an even bigger IT department
his course will be labs and online work
so i'll be able to take him to his labs after i get off work
and he can do the online stuff while i'm at work.
we'll find out in a day or two if he's approved for loans
the courses are very reasonably priced as well.
after i'm settled at bofa i'm thinking about doing some of their IT courses
bofa may reimburse
the school has a package where you can pay one flat rate
and take as many IT courses as you want/can in a year
heh, when peanut referred to me as his fiance,
the guy started babbling about how the carrer will be good for taking care of famliy
*shakes head*
so now we sit around at cyd and doc's till they return,
then take them to get their rental car
and hanging out.
