Nov. 10th, 2006 08:41 amhis is the first yes/no question that I recall that I have put as mandatory.
I find the idea that ONLY CHRISTIANS (or some other form of religious person) somehow have the monopoly on morals and standards, offensive. It implies that we have no brains at all without consulting big invisible guy in the sky. Not only that, if you believe in that dude up there, it implies that he was too lazy to give us enough moral reasoning ability on our own.
So YES, Atheists have the same ability to have their own personal solid morals as any other person.

Do you think it is possible for someone to be an Atheist and still have a solid moral framework by which to live?
- Yes.
- No.
the interesting flip side ...
Date: 2006-11-10 04:59 pm (UTC)It's fascinating to ponder that the Xtians, by holding this view, are pretty much admitting that if it were not for their moody invisible friend, they would be totally amoral ... that the only thing keeping them from running rampant in the streets is the fear of setting The Big Guy off into one of his "burn for all eternity" fits.
That atheists/pantheists/pagans/agnostics/etc. are able to comport themselves as decent human beings without the "don't piss Him off!" thing going on, has GOT to be unsettling to the Fundies!
