One may pride oneself on developing to ability to recognise the "point of no return" in things. But the reality may very well be that it's impossible to see it until you're fully in the midst of said point, and said point is sticky.
One may imagine it as if driving along a road and seeing a caution, falling boulders sign and smartly steering around it, but it may be more like driving along that road, seeing a sign and thinking "what's that say? Caution fa..." *SMASH*
