Unexpected extra benefits of tonsillectomy thus far:

* I can spit. I have never been able to properly spit before, I always assumed it was a skill I lacked. It turns out that apparently the mouth shape required for a proper PTUIE pushed my oversized throat testicles up and impeded airflow for proper acceleration of spit. Imagine my surprise to suddenly discover I could spit, the same day after surgery.

* I can breathe through my nose a whole hellofalot easier, so long as I'm not stuffed up, naturally. This means that (so long as I'm not stuffed up!) I can sleep with my mouth closed, which I have NEVER been able to do my entire life. I also assume this means that I no longer snore, though that has not yet been confirmed as I've still been pretty stuffy through most of recovery.

* I have considerably less sensitivity to smells. This one I just noticed recently and is weird. I still have a super smeller, but various smells are not bothering me anymore. I have a magazine that I have not removed the perfume packets from because they have not bothered me, though I can smell them very clearly. I have no idea how that's even related, but it's nifty.

* I appear to have somewhat less of a gag reflex, which the above might actually be related to.

* I have had absolutely no heartburn since the 3rd or so day of recovery. And I still have throat pain. I'm used to pretty constant heartburn whenever there's even a mild not-strep sore throat. So I don't know if this is because this is post-op pain and not a real sore throat or not.

I was really expecting the only benefits to be no more diseased sacks in my throat and possibly less snoring, so all of these things are surprising and happy results. I'm really most excited about the breathing through the nose thing, and it's crazy how much more throat I have. I was so used to those horrible things being swollen all the time I had no idea how much room they were actually taking up.
