Sticking my toe in the water.
Mar. 12th, 2007 06:11 pmAs some of you may know, I have intentions of getting a sociology/cultural anthropology degree,
with the goal of eventually teaching such subjects.
I'm looking through the first anthro course in the above link and I'm pondering something.
I'm going to start on the first course and am wondering if anyone wishes to join me.
I'm aware I do not have an excellent track record at getting plans off the ground,
unless it happens accidentally,
so to begin with I'd be willing to scan/type out relevant chapters/case studies,
so as to not require any commitment if you're not sure you or I will stay interested.
I'd prefer some live interaction in, say, an IRC channel,
but I'd also make a LJ community.
I'd ideally like to do one lecture a week via IRC, or at least once a month,
I realise that a lecture thing would be more interesting live, then in tl;dr format of a lj entry,
though lecture notes would be posted after if it were live.
However discussion might be easier to keep up with in a community,
if people were unable to make a class day commitment.
In conclusion, I'm doing this anyway, I'd just like some company if anyone's interested,
If you are I'd ask that you don't read the existing lecture notes on the site,
until each section is finished. I'm not going to just repeat the lecture,
but I'd rather that if anyone would like to discuss anything I didn't cover,
or decided to cover from a different point of view, that that would be in the later discussion.
School is currently not being financially and transportationally feasible,
but my brain is going nuts, and this'll give me a leg up,
and some small experience in orgainising lectures.
This is also something that I'm suddenly going to have organised and ready to go,
like, say, next week. I also have life priorities and it'll take me some time to pull it together.
