hoveringsombrero: (ARRRGH!)
So, up earlier than usual, only slept 6ish hours.

Soaking beans, readying tortilla equipment. Noticed it's warm, still air coming out the vent, but not very cold, and the air smells burnt. Went and looked at the thermostat, set at 74, but temperature gauge says it's 87. UGH. Good thing I noticed this BEFORE I turned on the stove to start the hot part of the cooking.

Regular guy came and looked at it, noticed the burnt smell out the vents right away, looked at the control thingy, and left to let Guy Who Climbs On Roof, know. Fortunately it's Thursday, so everyone's on duty, hopefully it's fixed quick, I think I hear feets up on the roof right now.

I've turned it off, as it seems to be pumping warm air in now.

I'm going to sit, very still, in the dark now, and await the return of magical cold air from the vents.

No pleasure, no rapture, no exquisite sin greater than central air.

Called office at 1:40pm, guy knocked on door just a couple minutes later, if even that long. I heard walking about on the roof within 5 minutes. At 2:15 guy came back to tell me it was fixed and to test it himself, cold air came out. He told me something in the compressor burnt out, and they simply replaced it. It just took a couple trips cause they had to go up there, see what it was, then go back and get the right part from wherever they keep such things, and go back up there and fix it.

I waited till I could feel a difference in temperature in here before officially celebrating, it's not quite back down to 70 degrees in here yet, but it's nearly just.

"On the ball" doesn't even begin to describe the efficiency of this place.

At my previous residence of 3 years, it took a minimum of 3 hours before guy would even come look at whatever the problem was.

So today we learned, that it is really easy to keep an apartment around 68-73°(f) when it's over 100°(f) outside. That is, to KEEP it at, assuming that it was that temperature throughout the night also.

It is not so easy to cool the same apartment down from 89°(f) when it's already over 100°(f) outside.

I've only just now gotten it down to 72°(f) in here.

Also, I feel ill.
