Hello insomnia.
Dec. 22nd, 2007 06:33 amSo, I'm now a card-carrying, registered voter.
I spent a lot of time, again, casting my line about and hoping to snag a party I could identify with. In vain, however, I am registered, again, an independant.
Perhaps it's life experience, a solidifying of morals and standards, or just getting old. But I find myself more uncomfortable, as time goes by, being labeled liberal. Being raised by democrats, and being very close to my father in political leanings as well as relationship, I think I always assumed that I'd be a democrat or at least something like libertarian when I "grew up." And definitely didn't expect to be ever bitching about liberal hippies, in any seriousness. I was briefly registered with the green party some time in the 90s and attended more than a couple earth day things with flowers in my hair! Seriously.
Abortion and gay rights issues will always keep me far away from the republican party, and I'm, as yet, uncomfortable with detailing any issues with the democrat party and various non-uberconservative groups. I have been and am good friends with some rather leftleaning people who I much respect and am not going to open that can of worms while not fully awake.
I'm aware that a good portion of my country would assume or describe someone like me to be as left as they make 'em. But for now I'm giving up my search and being quite happy with my political agnosticism. I know where I stand and I'm just not comfortable with affiliating myself with a group I sortamostlykindasometimes agree with. Just not my bag, baby.
Until Penn Gillette starts his own party, then I'll be all over that bandwagon like something witty on something even more witty.
