Sugarless Peanut.
Jul. 6th, 2005 11:21 pmThis week has been a big blur.
My sleep is all screwed up.
We went swimming last night,
I thought we were going again tonight.
But he is snore.
This morning I awoke far too early and wandered out
and sat at his computer.
I've been worried for a few days that we're due for another
blood sugar low.
As I was sitting out at his computer it started to really bug at me.
And suddenly he gets a leg cramp over on the couch and makes noises,
of pain and annoyance.
I ask what's wrong, he just kinda blinks at me.
So I turn back to the computer.
A few moments later I hear a thump.
I turn and he's on the floor next to the couch.
So I go over and cannot rouse him more than a confused stare and "hmmm?."
Grab the pokey and attempt to get some blood out of him to test.
I poke 3 fingers and he just refuses to bleed.
Fuck it, I decide I know he's low and that it probably doesn't matter exactly how low.
So I go fill a cup with white grape juice and put a straw in.
Go back over and stick the straw in his mouth,
he cannot suck, he tries, he looks at me all distressed like I'm going to be mad.
I stop up one end of the straw and just start dumping strawfulls into his mouth,
he manages to swallow just fine, but this is taking far too long.
AhHA! I'll use gravity!
So I turn the straw around so the shorter side of the bed is barely in the juice,
and put the end of the longer side in his mouth,
and raise the cup!
This works fine, but I realize he's going to need to breathe right as he
starts looking distressed again.
So I make some comment about it, and pull the straw out of juice to let him breathe.
And the boy starts giggling,
probably doesn't help that I've been baby talking him.
I try to coax the straw back into his mouth telling him that the "happy pink straw"
wants to help more.
Just causes more giggling.
So then he's got enough juice in him that he's able to sit up,
and then walk around.
He remained confused for a while and took about an hour for him to speak properly.
SO! one more scary morning low survived sans panicked call to 911!
That's the happiest I've ever seen him become coherrent from a bad low,
Silly boy was giggling before he could figure out speech!

Meant to go shower, I have to work a bit at 4am so I'm just upstaying.
Been looking at all the pictures in
soopuhstar's journal.
I haven't a clue how I got to her journal I was hopping.
Distracted by pictures!
Shower, maybe, why not?
