early morning rant
Mar. 5th, 2003 07:05 amthis is stupid and pisses me off
while i think the doctors and books the reference are perhaps fucking with the woman's cycle a little too much, i really don't see any full direct quotes so i'd be interested to look at the actual sources, which they do cite., they use quotes like "Yes" that bothers me.
i, personally, WORSHIP THE PILL.
i've always had a rather bad "time of the month", since it started around 12 years of age (unsure exactly what age, heh)
however up until i started college at 16 i was mostly home schooled so the fact that i was out of commission from 3 to 5 days a month didn't seem like a big deal.
i had cramps and ( bloody ;) TMI ) to the extent that i was bedridden or at least unable to leave the house.
this became a serious problem when i started college as it caused at the very least 3 days of school missed a month, often an entire week.
so doctors were seen about this and they suggested birth control.
so, to this day, even though i've had a few long periods of time where i was not on the pill at all, my period has never ever been as bad as it was before the pill. it still can suck a whole lot, but i'm still able to function. once in a while it'll be too bad for just a day. but if it's important not to miss i can still force work or school.
the article goes on to rant about how the pill contains carcinogenic chemicals. this is often just a blanket anti-anything because it's often hard to disprove. hell the air we breathe is carcinogenic.
but once again it's quotes are in the manner of:
: "Our usual customers are women over 30 who have been taking birth control pills since they were teenagers or in their early 20s."
"bad"
hehe, however i do enjoy the paragraph about PMDD
that's amusing, everything is a "mental disorder" these days.
seriously, being female is a mental disorder, we don't need another label.
i went from annoyed to amused while reading this.
anyway, in short, there are risks to putting any foreign chemical in your body
especially ones which shove your hormones about like little pusher robots.
this is why there are warnings and disclaimers on everything.
and often the tangible benefits outweigh the possible risks
