Today eris was the dumb.

Was having problems with my connection.
In the middle of my shift, no less.

Was acting like perhaps the DNS server was down,
so peanut called and talk to cox. No known issues on their
side and didn't really get anything resolved.
But the tech could see my connection going on and off
for no reason.

About 5 mins after hanging up with them,
I decided to restart the modem once more.

As I stood over the modem I looked down and realized,
that I'd been having this problem to a small degree for a while,
and that it was AFTER I put a splitter and an older short coax on.

DOH!
Removed splitter and short coax, connected modem directly to wall,
sans splitter.

Everything's fast and dandy.

First thing you do, restart everything.
Follow all the cables see what's up.
Even if you haven't moved anything check it anyhow.

Sheesh, I can explain this over the phone to OTHER PEOPLE,
but it doesn't always sink in my own head it seems.
