Irae

i was sitting here being silly in irc and parts of the (meaning mozart's) requiem came in to my head

i HAD to hear it, two movements specifically
Confutatis and Lacrymosa

managed to find them on bearshare, then managed to find a lyrics site because my latin is rusty
and i've rediscovered a problem i use to have, my range is from tenor to 1st soprano, but at the high end of 2nd soprano i cannot hit the notes quietly without being severely in practice

so i'm most comfortable in mezzo sop range but my teachers use to lecture me about that because they felt i preferred mezzo soprano because it was the least challenging, and thus least competitive
which is true, i couldn't hack it as a solo 1st soprano because i couldn't handle the competition, easier to hide in 2nd/mezzo range.
and at the time i felt horribly guilty for 'accidentally' missing all of the 1st sop solo auditions

i will get back into it again, it's in my blood, and unlike more popular type of musical performance (which i'd still also like to do) you can't be too old to be a voice on stage with a symphony, as long as you sound good
so even though i'm antsy to get back into it, there's no time rush right now
it'll take at least a year of private training before i'm confident enough to get on stage again though i think

it's a lot like the computer world in the aspect that you're NEVER done learning
i saw many many of my peers crash and burn because they decided they didn't need lessons anymore
the 'i've learned all there is to know and there's no better way' attitude is bad everywhere,
but the classical music world is where i learned that lesson

hehe
if you're singing it every day of the week (including weekends) for years you kinda pick it up
i had teachers that use to hand out phrase books and song translations
they thought we'd give it more emotion if we understood the words we were singing
